by Arts & Crafts Editor
Rose expert Tom Carruth will discuss roses as a motif of the Arts & Crafts movement as part of the Sidney D. Gamble House lecture series sponsored by the Gamble House. An enduring symbol of the romantic notions of the movement, roses figure in William Morris textiles, many Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs, and the “cottage” gardens of Gertrude Jekyll. The Director of Research at Weeks Roses in Pomona, California, Carruth will also talk about present-day roses that descend from historic examples, and offer tips on cultivating roses today. Tickets are $25 (discount for Gamble House members). Art Center College of Design, Ahmanson Auditorium, Pasadena, California; (626) 793-3334, gamblehouse.org
