2010 Bungalow Heaven Historic Home Tour

[ April 25, 2010; ] Self-guided tour will feature pristinely restored and preserved homes within the Bungalow Heaven Landmark District, now on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Each home is a splendid example of early 20th century architecture and style. Docents will be on hand to answer questions as visitors enjoy an intimate look at the interiors of homes in this picturesque neighborhood. (One home will feature colorful living history, with actors impersonating the original owner and architect.) Fairmount Historic Tour of Homes

36th Annual Wright Plus House Walk

The Artistic Furniture of Charles Rohlfs

[ May 22, 2010; ] The Huntington Library presents this exhibition of furniture and decorative art by American craftsman and designer Charles Rohlfs (1853–1936), bringing together more than 40 pieces from 10 museums and several private collections to survey his career as a furniture designer. With roots in the Aesthetic movement, Rohlfs’ style relates to the abstract naturalism of Art Nouveau but draws on precedents from Asian and Moorish as well as English and German designs. His work influenced the pared-down oak forms that became hallmarks of the Arts & Crafts movement.
