29th Annual Historic Elgin House Tour

Elgin, Illinois This year’s house walk will be in the Northwest Neighborhood just south of Wing Park. The tour will be in the area from Vincent Street west to North Worth and north of Highland to Wing Park Boulevard. Only one of these homes has been on the house tour before. The Annual Historic Elgin House Tour is an educational event that offers visitors architecture, history, home remodeling, interior decorating, gardening and more. The interior tours of the homes are guided and interpreted. Sponsored by the Gifford Park Association. Admission: $15 in advance, or $20 day of the tour. Order tickets online. Gustav Stickley & The American Arts & Crafts Movement

 The first comprehensive examination of the life and work of one of the patriarchs of the American Arts and Crafts movement. The exhibition and its accompanying catalog explore Stickley as a business leader and design proselytizer, whose architectural and interior designs became synonymous with the Arts and Crafts movement at the turn of the 20th century. This presentation provides a perspective on the aesthetics, craftsmanship, and identity of his works and their role in creating the ideal home of the era. More than one hundred masterworks will be on display, including metalwork, lamps, textiles, and drawings. Hours: Wednesday–Friday: noon–5 pm; weekends: 10 am–5 pm. Lake Placid (and various locations), New York Tour private and public Adirondack camps on a four-day excursion led by experts in the field of architectural history and preservation, as well as local historians. This is a unique, behind-the-scenes look at this distinctive piece of America’s architectural geography. Among the places included on the tour are National Historic Landmarks Camp Pine Knot and Great Camp Sagamore (the Vanderbilts’ summer residence). Handmade Tile Association’s 9th Annual Tile Festival

Bungalow Belt by Bus: South Route

Enjoy learning about the aesthetic evolution of the historic Chicago bungalow while touring McKinley Park, Gage Park, Chicago Lawn, Chatham, and the South Park Manor Historic District. 12th Annual Arts & Crafts Movement Conference

Four day event will include walking tours, presentations by experts, and evening receptions organized by Initiatives in Art and Culture. The tours and receptions will take advantage of the City’s wealth of architectural treasures. The talks by museum curators, scholars, and educators will represent a cross-disciplinary approach to the Arts & Crafts Movement. There will be curatorial and private tours of such sites as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Samuel Tilden House, the Jefferson Market Courthouse, and the Church of the Incarnation with murals by LaFarge, baptistry by St. Gaudens, and windows by Tiffany, LaFarge, William Morris & Co. and Edward Burne-Jones.
