Welcome to Dow’s Eastern White Cedar Shingles and Shakes. We are a Maine based manufacturer of premium quality machine–sawn Eastern White Cedar Shingles and Shakes. We are the fifth generation of a family business that has been machine sawing Maine Eastern White Cedar Shingles and Shakes for 80 years.

We work with architects and contractors all over the United States and our shingles and shakes are on some of the finest homes and structures in America. We manufacture our shingles and shakes from the best available Maine white cedar and follow the strictest standards for quality and dimension. If your project requires a specific size shingle or shake, which many historical restoration projects necessitate, we can handle special orders to make matching a snap. Just send us a sample and we will replicate it to the original specifications. We are your best source for quality shingles and shakes and we stand by every bundle we make.

In addition to our standard product we also produce hand split shakes and we can also manufacture our products out of pine upon request.

Why use our products?
Our Cedar shingles are a long lasting natural solution to your roofing and siding needs. They add sales appeal and value to your residential and commercial buildings and other projects. Our Cedar shingles are sawn from Northern Maine White Cedar, and are sawn square the first time; no need for re-squared and re-butted. We can custom saw our Cedar Shingles to any length up to 24″ at almost any thickness desired.

Our standard Cedar Shake size is 5/8” butt, 18” long, with 6” exposure, while 3/8” butt, 16” long, with 5” exposure is the standard size for our Cedar Shingles.

Cedar shingles and shakes are made from a renewable resource. They also provide additional insulation benefits, lowering your heating and cooling costs, especially in states like Maine where the climate is fairly chilly for most of the year. Our cedar shingles have an R-7 insulation factor, while an R-12 insulation factor can be found in our Cedar shakes.

Cedar shingles and shakes are often preferred by our Maine customers who desire the warmth, durability, beauty and natural coloration that they provide. Your particular needs may call for our Roof Grade; or our Wall Grade with solid knots, or our popular Wall Grade II; which is suitable for garages, barns, storage buildings, and camps. Regardless of your requirements, we can meet them with Premium quality cedar shingles and shakes at a reasonable price.

We have standard sizes available, or we will custom saw our cedar shingles to your specifications.

Please feel free to call us for a free sample of our cedar shingles and shakes, or call to request a quote on your roofing and/or siding need. Delivery is available. No order is too big or too small for us.
